'CHALK' - Short Film

I chose this short film due to the sad and emotional messaged conveyed in the film. This film was based on a small incident and  about a young boy child who comes across isolated from the other children at school as he walks alone through the corridors with a hand full of chalk.
This little boy rejects playtime with another child to select himself a corner in the playground. The slow and non diegetic soundtrack makes this short film very emotional and touching towards the audience.
The focus on the little boy shows us how important he is and highlights the fact that he is alone with no friends or family shown around him. The surprised facial expression and understanding body language of the teacher as we are shown a low angle shot of him looking down at the little boy as he draws on the ground suggests the teacher is shocked to see what the little boy is drawing and shocked to only realise at such short notice how this little boy is feeling.
The high angle shot of the boys final drawing of a woman suggested to be a mother and the little boy laying in her arms show that the little boy is at an disadvantage of not having a mother and missing out on motherly love.

The main message of this short film is that 'some of us, unlike some of the privileged ones, value and solely desire a mothers love'.

Another part of the message to is 'love and be loved' this is said to help encourage others to adopt a child.
